Australian Aged Care Supply Chains: Challenges and Automation Opportunities

Exploring aged care supply-chain challenges, AI-driven automation solutions and opportunities for university–industry research collaboration.

Wednesday, 20 January 2027 · Event Time: 4:00 PM – 6:10 PM (AEDT) · Online · Free

An aged care resident and care professional beside food supplies, medicines, medical supplies and automated healthcare logistics

About the Program

Australia's aged care sector relies on complex supply chains to ensure the timely availability of medicines, medical equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), food and other essential supplies. Aged care providers face challenges associated with procurement, inventory management, supply shortages, delivery coordination, wastage and rising operational costs.

Artificial intelligence and automation present opportunities to address these challenges through predictive demand forecasting, intelligent inventory management, automated replenishment, logistics optimisation and improved coordination between aged care providers, suppliers and distribution partners.

This two-hour and ten-minute interactive roundtable brings together Australian university researchers, aged care providers, healthcare supply-chain professionals, logistics organisations and technology companies to identify current supply-chain challenges and explore how universities and industry can work together to develop practical AI-driven automation solutions.

The program provides an opportunity for participants to exchange perspectives, identify shared research interests and explore potential collaborative research projects that respond to the operational needs of Australia's aged care sector.

The discussion will also explore opportunities to establish university–industry research partnerships, develop joint research proposals and identify relevant Australian research funding opportunities for 2027.

No formal presentations or slides are required. Participants are encouraged to contribute to an open discussion without disclosing confidential organisational information.
